About

About

How the human body works and moves has always been of great interest to me, and in particular the mind-body link. My love of sports and fitness led me to become a gym instructor at Driffield sports centre and then onto the University of Hull where I gained a Bachelor of Science degree in sports science. At around that time I gained my level 1 and 2 Reiki initiation, followed a couple of years later with Seichem level 1 and 2. It was while attending my Emotional Freedom course that I came across the Bowen Technique. I was intrigued and always eager to learn and so went on to qualify in Bowen in 2012.
I spent some time treating people with Bowen at the Wellbeing centre in Market Weighton and also on a mobile basis.  Most recently I trained in reflexology, another fascinating therapy that aims to assist your own body and self to heal.
Having struggled myself with chronic health problems, both physical and mental, which I have worked to manage and overcome I feel I am in a better place myself and in a great position now to help and assist others in their healing.

PHILOSOPHY
SERVICES

What is fascia?

Fascia is the connective, fibrous layers of tissue that surrounds and supports our bodies, it gives us shape and movement. This continuous web is around and inside almost every bone, muscle, nerve, organ and cell in our body.

It's interconnectedness with every structure in our body allows communicate between the whole body and it's systems and is always striving toward optimal health and movement for you. Fascia is a highly responsive structure adapting to demands placed on it from daily life. It's elasticity and sliding capacity can become compromised leading to decreased mobility and increased pain. Slow, gentle techniques, typical of Bowen, Myofascial release and reflexology assist your own body and fascia to become more fluid, less restricted and to free up areas of pain.

Reflexology
Bowen Therapy

Reflexology is a natural, non-invasive therapy that uses thumb and finger pressure to stimulate reflex points on the feet. These reflex points correspond to organs and systems in the rest of the body. Applying pressure to these reflex points aims to promote healing and relaxation in specific organs or areas of the body that may hold tension or pain. Reflexology can also assist with mental and emotional well-being, it’s not just a foot massage. Oils are used.

Bowen Technique/Therapy is a gentle, hands-on therapy that works to influence the fascia. Gentle rolling type movements are applied over muscles, tendons, nerves and ligaments to stimulate the body's own healing mechanisms. It can help relieve pain, improve mobility, and promote physical, mental and emotional wellness.

Between sets of moves we have pauses or breaks which allow the body to make the appropriate responses. Bowen technique is generally applied through clothing and no oils are used. Change is often observed within 3 sessions, chronic conditions may be longer. Response to Bowen may continue for up to 10 days.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release (MFR) massage and techniques are specially developed to stretch, smooth and free fascia allowing more movement and reduced pain. Massage can be both gentle and slow yet still highly effective, force is not necessary to instigate change. Fascia can become damaged, tight and carry tension leading to impaired movement and differing levels of pain. MFR gently stretches and applies sustained pressure to connective tissue to help relieve pain and stiffness and improve motion. No oils are used.
